Established in 1967, the Hyundai Motor Company’s first model, the Hyundai Cortina, was jointly developed with Ford Motor Company and released in 1968. The Hyundai Motor Company’s car-making acumen increased at light speed from there, culminating in its now-legendary North American debut in 1986. Forgive MotorWorld Hyundai, a well-respected Hyundai new and used car dealer serving Scranton, PA, if we wax nostalgic for a bit.
After experiencing record-setting success with its first-ever North American model, the 1986 Hyundai Excel, the Hyundai Motor Company wasted no time in beefing up its across-the-board quality offer. Not long after breaking into the American market, the Hyundai brand conceived its industry-leading 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty (the Hyundai Advantage, or America’s Best Warranty). Hyundai vehicle quality garnered a rock-solid reputation, and in 2004 the Hyundai Motor Company finished second for initial vehicle quality in a study conducted by J.D. Power and Associates. In 2011, the Hyundai Motor Company finished fourth in a survey of the world’s most admired automotive companies. And today, the Hyundai Motor Company is the fifth-largest automaker on planet Earth.
Over the last 30 years, the Hyundai Motor Company has invested heavily in its U.S. infrastructure. The Hyundai Design Center was built in Fountain Valley, CA in 1990, and relocated to a new Irvine, CA facility in 2003. In 2005, the Hyundai America Technical Center, the company’s engineering arm, moved into a new 200,000 sq.ft. headquarters near Ann Arbor, MI. Also in 2005, production started at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant. This plant is responsible for building popular models like the Hyundai Elantra and the Hyundai Sonata – so if you visit our dealership and purchase a 2016 Hyundai Elantra near Hazleton, PA, you can take pride knowing that this award-winning model was built in the USA!
